Overview

Pastore Peak, also known as Pastori Peak, is a mountain near K2 and Broad Peak in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan. It is part of the Baltoro Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram Mountains. The Baltoro Muztagh is situated in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, which is in the northern part of the country.

Pastore Peak offers stunning climbing routes with a view of neighbouring K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum and Baltoro Glacier. Accessible as a day hike from Concordia, a famous trekking and mountaineering destination in the Karakoram. Concordia is often known as the “Throne Room of the Mountain Gods” because it offers spectacular views of several of the world’s highest peaks, including K2 and Broad Peak. Pastore Peak is one of the notable peaks in this area and is often climbed by mountaineers to prepare for their upcoming higher mountain expeditions.

For many years, Trango Adventures has been organising expeditions to Pasotre Peak for mountaineering enthusiasts. Trango Adventures operates a 24-day Pastore Peak and K2 Gondogoro La trek to the heart of Karakoram, which is best in terms of safety, acclimatisation and enjoyment. The duration may be longer or shorter depending on the client’s experience, ability and time.

The starting point of Pastore Peak’s journey is Islamabad. Islamabad is the nearest international airport to the Karakoram mountains. Islamabad is the purpose-built green capital city of Pakistan. Our staff will meet and greet you at the Islamabad International Airport, then transfer you to the group hotel for a rest to recover from the journey. We will meet again in the afternoon for a briefing about the trek. The next day, you will take the spectacular mountain view flight to Skardu.  From the flight, you will have the first glimpse of Nanga Parbat, K2 and many other Himalayan & Karakoram peaks. After 45 minutes, you will arrive in Skardu. Skardu is the capital of Baltistan. You will check into your hotel, and the rest of the afternoon is for rest and preparation for your trek.

The following day, you will start your day by driving along the mighty Indus, Shigar, and then the Braldu river to the Shigar valley towards Askoli. Askoli is the last village before you enter the wilderness of the Karakoram and the central Karakoram National Park. You will spend your first night under the stars in your tents. After spending your first night in the tent under the starry canvas, today will be your first day of walking. You will walk towards Braldu Gorge and to the snout of the Baltoro glacier, which you then follow to Concordia. Concordia is located at the junction of the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen Glaciers. It is the centre of the Karakoram mountain range, and the centre of a complex of some of the world’s highest peaks and many of the largest glaciers. Concordia gives you fantastic mountain views. On every side, within a radius of 24 km, rise ten of the world’s thirty highest peaks, including K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum peaks.

Night stay at Concordia, then a day hike will take you to the base camp of Pastore Peak. Your climbing session of Pastore Peak will start from here onwards, and we will spend 3-4 days climbing Pastore Peak. After climbing Pastore Peak, you can trek on Godwin-Austen glacier to visit Broad Peak, Milky Memorial, and the base camp of K2, then return to Concordia for a night’s stay. After spending a night at Concordia, you will continue your trek on the upper Baltoro glacier towards Chogolisa and Ali Camp.

Overnight at the Ali camp. From the Ali camp, you will start your second part of the journey by crossing the Gondogoro Pass (5,590m), which requires crampons, a harness, a Jumar and a helmet. Every year, at the beginning of the season, a rescue team from Hushe village fixes the ropes on Gondogoro La, maintains them through the trekking season and removes them at the end of the season for a fixed fee (included). Rescue team members are based at the booth side of the Pass. They will also help and assist you in climbing the pass.

You have to wake up very early in the morning to climb Gondogoro Pass. It is necessary to cross the Pass before sunrise to avoid any kind of ice falls and avalanches due to the temperature rise. The beginning of the ascent is gentle for two hours, then there is the steep section with fixed ropes. From here onwards, you will attach the safety carabiners to the rope to reach the top of the pass.

Once you are on top of the Gondogoro pass, you will have a spectacular Mountain view, including the four eight-thousand-meter-high peaks, K2 (8,611m), Broad Peak (8,051m), Gasherbrum I (8,080m) and Gasherbrum II (8,035m). Ascending down from the pass, you will enter the other side of the Karakoram in the Hushe Valley. Hushe is a small village. It is a Typical Balti Remote Village where you will meet the friendly Balti people. Hushe is under the Gangche district, and Khapulu is the district headquarters. From Hushe, you will drive along the Shyok and Indus rivers towards Skardu. On the route, you will pass through many beautiful small Balti villages with a lot of smiling faces. Hushe to Skardu is 6 6-hour drive.

In Skardu, you will sleep in a real bed and have a hot shower. The following day, you will take a flight to Islamabad. In case of flight cancellation, you will drive on the Karakoram Highway. After spending a night in Islamabad, you will be transferred to the airport to fly back home. We strongly believe that our Pastore Peak journey will create lifelong memories for you.

Pastore Peak FAQS

Pastore Peak Cost?

Pastore Peak Cost.

We are often asked this question How come your trips cost so little?

Trango Adventure is a Skardu-based company in Pakistan. We are a local tour operator, offering guided treks, tours, and climbing expeditions for the last 40 years. As a local travel company, we have our own local staff, infrastructure, hotels, and transportation system, so we can afford to offer the trips at a low price without compromising the quality of the service.

We strongly believe you do not have to break your bank account to enjoy nature and walk in the mountains. Being a local tour operator, we do not hand our clients over to another tour operator or a third party, as all the International tour operators do, because they do not have offices and staff in Pakistan.

Companies based in Europe have high rents and salaries to pay in USD/Euros to keep the business running. They do not have offices or staff in Pakistan, so they take their commission and pass their clients to local tour operators/agents. They act as a middleman between you and the tour operator in Pakistan. These are the reasons International companies are expensive. They send their groups to Pakistan only if they have a certain number of people in a group. They cancel the trek if they do not get a certain number of participants because they lose money. All our trips are guaranteed, even if we have ONE person in the group.

We are the people you will talk to, see and spend time with from the beginning till the end of your trip. We are not anonymous people on the other end of email/phone in Europe that you may never see.

Trango Adventure has a history of providing top-quality service, and we do not compromise on the standard of the service. We always prioritise your satisfaction over any cost-cutting measures. By travelling with us, you pay directly to the local people and businesses, strengthening our mission to support sustainable tourism in this region.

Why our trekking and climbing holidays are low?

Local Staff and Fair Pay: Everyone who works with us lives in the local area, has been with us for many years, and we pay them fairly in the local currency. Our guides and cooks are from the Shigar region, and earn more wages than those at other companies. Most of our staff have been working with us for over 20 years; they are the true assets of our company.

Our infrastructure: We have been offering trekking holidays in Pakistan for the last 40 years, so we are well established. We have our hotels, private transports, and local staff, which keep the cost down and run the trips smoothly.

Other reasons to travel with a local company.

Being a Local Company, we have the advantage of local knowledge, contacts, experience, and local staff to support your travel requirements. Our Guides and staff have collectively visited every corner of Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan. They have the passion, knowledge and insight around adventure travel that you can rely on. Our independence means we can be flexible to ensure your needs are satisfied. Our experienced and professional team will do their best to provide you with excellent service, so you can have peace of mind that all your requirements will be met. We are local,

  •  We are not an anonymous person on the end of a phone that you will never meet.
  •  We are the people you talk to when discussing your plans
  • We are the people you will meet upon arrival
  • We are the people who will look after you when doing the activities
  • We are the people you will laugh with
  • We are the people you will thank at the end.

Group leaders

Trango Adventure has licensed and experienced mountain guides for all our trips to the Karakoram Mountains. Their responsibilities are to ensure you have an enjoyable, safe and authentic travel experience. All our guides are licensed and regulated by the Government of Pakistan. They have been working with us for many years, we know them all very well, and they are part of Trango Adventure’s family. We strongly believe in responsible tourism. We use local Guides and porters so that they can share their knowledge of the area with you.

Safety and Security

Our top priority is the safety and security of our guests and trek staff. It begins at the planning stage by designing a well-thought-out itinerary that allows for the necessary time for acclimatisation to the increase in altitude. We regularly check the UK and USA foreign office travel advice and avoid travelling to areas that are not recommended. Your deposit is fully refundable if you can not travel to Pakistan due to changes in the political and security situation.

All our guides are well-trained and highly experienced in leading groups in the Himalayas and the Karakoram. Throughout the trekking seasons in Pakistan, we obtain professional weather forecasts from everestweather.com

Safety First: We take the well-being of our guests very seriously. All our guides and staff are well-trained and highly experienced in handling risks. They know the area very well because they were born and bred in this region. We remain in close contact with the local rescue teams in case of emergency or need a helicopter rescue. Safety is extremely important when trekking in such remote areas.

Good value

All of our Trekking Holidays in Pakistan are good value for money. We provide an excellent service at competitive prices and do not compromise on the quality of any aspect of the trip. Being a local and independent company, we can afford to provide you with a high-quality holiday in Pakistan at a low cost because we do not use any agents or third parties, unlike most Western companies.

Responsible and Sustainable Tourism

We are dedicated to responsible and sustainable tourism with the aim that future travellers will see the destinations in a similar or better state than we have been able to. Low-volume and low-impact travelling are some of the most effective ways of preserving the fragile areas we visit.

We strongly believe in using local resources and expertise, so all your money goes to the local businesses and local people. All our staff are locals and have been with us for many years. Our staff and field crew are the most valuable assets of our company, so we always ensure that our local staff are paid a fair wage.

Nutritious Meals: Our experienced cooks prepare high-quality and tasty food. Over the last decades, we have learnt what type of grocery items to take with us in the mountains that can last longer and provide all the nutrition you need. Our unique menu is a balance of protein and carbohydrates, better than what you’d find elsewhere. We take live chickens and goats to use as a source of protein during the trekking season. If you choose a more expensive company, you will likely have the same food.

Our Campsites: At Trango Adventure, we understand that after a long day of trekking at high altitude, you deserve a cosy and relaxing camping environment. That’s why we go the extra mile to ensure your comfort. Here’s what we provide to make your campsite experience truly enjoyable:

  • Tables and Comfy Chairs: We set up tables and comfortable chairs so that you have a proper place to sit, relax, and enjoy your meals and conversations with fellow trekkers.
  • Spacious Dining Tent: Our large dining tents are spacious, so everyone can enjoy the meals during the trek. You won’t feel cramped and have a comfortable area to socialise and share stories.
  • Well-Equipped Kitchen Tent: Our dedicated kitchen tent is fully equipped to prepare delicious meals. Our experienced cooks work their magic here to ensure you get the best dining experience possible.
  • Private Toilet Tent: We understand the importance of privacy, especially toilet facilities. Toilets are available at most campsites in the Baltoro region. Please talk to our advisors if you would like to order a private toilet tent to ensure that you have a personal and comfortable space for your needs near your sleeping tent.
  • Charging Generator: Staying connected is necessary, even in the wilderness. We provide a generator/solar panel to charge your mobile phones, cameras and drones so you can capture stunning photos and stay in touch with your loved ones.
  • Refreshments: Coffee, Tea, and Cookies: When you arrive at camp, you’ll be greeted with the inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea. Alongside these warm beverages, we offer a variety of cookies to satisfy your cravings and keep you energised during the entire trip.

We aim to make your trekking experience as enjoyable and convenient as possible. By providing these amenities, we want you to feel at home in the great outdoors, allowing you to focus on soaking in the natural beauty of the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan.

Small Groups for an Authentic Experience: We believe in small groups so that you get a truly authentic travel experience. Small groups are easier to manage, and our staff can pay attention to everyone. We never have more than twelve people in our trekking groups. Other companies regularly take 30-40 people in a group with only one guide who might not speak English well. This can lead to problems and delays, like not having enough porters.

Communication Devices: All our mountain guide carries satellite phones in case of emergencies, even though the local authorities installed a mobile antenna at Concordia two years ago. The local mobile phone network provider S COM provides service in the Baltoro region. You can get an S COM SIM in Skardu and use the internet to stay in contact with family and friends while trekking in the mountains.

Pre-trip briefing: Before you leave for Pastore Peak, you may request a one-on-one call with us. This helps to do last-minute checks on equipment and prepare for a successful and enjoyable trip. We will answer any questions about the airport transfer and group hotel, and arrange additional hotel nights if needed.

Is the Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro la trek Safe?

The Pastore Peak, K2, and Gondogoro La trek are very safe. This peak and the Trek are located in the Baltistan region of Pakistan. The Baltistan region has been hosting foreign tourists for many decades. Crime level has been recorded at ZERO for decades, and people of this area are well-educated and peaceful.

During the trekking session, you will be walking on the dry land from Askoli and for a few days on the surface of the glaciers, which do not require any climbing. You do not need climbing skills and climbing equipment to complete this trek. Trekking across glaciers and through streams deep within the mountains, climbing Pastore Peak and the K2 and Gondogoro la Treks have a strenuous rating.

At Trango Adventure, the well-being of our guests is our top priority, and that’s why our experienced ground crew always takes essential safety measures. Injury prevention is our top priority, and safety is always our main concern. Our 40 years of experience providing trekking holidays in Pakistan sets us apart from other travel companies. Over the years, we’ve learned how important it is to be ready for any unexpected situation. We recognise the value of preparedness and work hard to acquire the resources necessary to handle any emergency.

We understand the importance of clear communication in an emergency and have invested in satellite phones. Even though they are expensive to acquire and maintain, we refuse to put profit above safety. Because of this, your mountain guide will bring a means of communicating through satellite. With these tools, we can contact rescue workers from wherever in Pakistan.

We also appreciate individual interaction and have arranged for a satellite phone for guest usage at a fee of $5 per minute (paid in local currency).

How far is the Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La trek?
The distance is 95 km from Askoli village. Askoli is the last village of the Shigar Valley. We drive from Skardu to Askoli village and start hiking towards K2. After climbing Pastore Peak, cross the Gondogoro pass into Hushe Valley. It takes 5 days to reach the summit of Pastore Peak. 2-3 days to cross the Gondogoro la Pass, the highest point being 5,550 meters at the top of the Gondogoro Pass and 2-3 days back to Skardu.
How is the weather during the Trek?

The weather is mostly sunny, with clear skies during the trekking season in the summer. Unlike the Everest base camp trek, we do not have a monsoon season in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan. It does not rain very often; however, the weather in the mountains is unpredictable, so be prepared for brief downpours and storms. In addition, the conditions you encounter will vary from location to location.

Islamabad: The capital city of Pakistan is the starting point of the journey, experiencing hot and humid weather between May and September. Rain from the monsoon season could fall at this time as well. Daytime highs average around 42°C (97°F), while overnight lows average around 25°C (75°F).

Skardu: Skardu is the capital of the Baltistan region and is at an elevation of 2,250 meters, so expect higher daytime temperatures and lower humidity as you travel there. Skardu has cooler, more comfortable nights. Dust along the main bazaar is due to the neighbouring Sarfaraga and Katpana cold deserts, and you may experience strong winds and dust storms. Skardu experiences its highest average monthly temperature of 32°C (80.4°F) in July, with lows of 12°C (50°F) at night. The rays from the sun are sharper due to the high altitude, and it could feel hotter than the actual temperature.

We advise you to pack for a wide range of climates, from the hot, humid, and potentially wet climate of Islamabad to the varying temperatures, dust, and strong winds of Skardu. Take clothes that will keep you warm, dry, and safe on the hike. We will send you a packing list for the K2 base camp trek closer to departure.

How fit do I have to be to climb Pastore Peak and complete the K2 and Gondogoro La Trek?

You must be in good physical condition and able to walk for lengthy periods (up to 7 hours) through varied terrain. We will walk for 5-7 hours daily during this trekking session of this holiday. You will carry only your day bag with a bottle of water, a camera, a hat, sun cream, etc. We will have several local porters and mules to transport the gear.

When is the best time to climb Pastore Peak and trek to K2 BC and the Gondogoro La trek?

The best time to climb Pastore Peak is from June until the end of August. Gondogoro Pass is only open from mid-June until the end of August. The rest of the year, it remains closed. During the mentioned months, a rescue team from Hushe village fixes the ropes and assists all tourists to cross the pass. They provide this service for a set fee, which is included in our holiday package.

What type of  Visa is required for climbing Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La Trek?

A trekking visa is required to climb Pastore Peak, the K2 Base Camp trek, the K2 and Gondogoro La trek, or other trekking activities in the Baltoro region. Baltoro is in a restricted zone (Central Karakoram National Park). You are not allowed to enter this zone with a standard tourist visa. The restricted area has an entry fee of around $200, which is included in our Pastore Peak, K2 base camp trek package.

The Trekking and Mountaineering Visa application must be submitted through the government’s official visa application website. We will send you all the required documents, including the Letter of Invitation (LOI), to apply for the trekking visa
Being reputable and one of the oldest tour operators in Pakistan, our client’s visa success rate is 100%.  All our clients get trekking visas on time before their departure dates. Read this in-depth post for information on how to submit an online application for a Pakistan trekking visa.

Does the Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La Trek require previous experience?

The Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La Trek do not require previous trekking or mountaineering experience. No technical climbing knowledge or experience is necessary. This hike is perfect for explorers who wish to experience high-altitude ice-climbing and trekking to gain climbing knowledge. Anyone in generally good health who has hiked long distances before is welcome to sign up.

Most of the time will be spent on solid ground, with only a few days traversing the glacier. Our staff will pitch tents for you to sleep in the evening and take them down in the morning. We will also show you how to use the harness, crampons and jumar to cross the pass.

The Pastore Peak, K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro la Trek are perfect options for high altitudes and training for future ascents of summits between 7,000 and 8,000 meters.

Is preparation necessary to join this trek?
Your fitness level determines if you need to prepare for this trekking holiday. Before joining this trek, it will help if you work on your aerobic fitness and strength endurance. Despite the gradual ascent, you may expect to spend five to eight hours on the trail. Whether or not you need to train for this trek can be determined by taking a couple of lengthy day treks on mountainous terrain near you.
Will there be a generator available?
We will have either a generator or Solar panels during the trekking session. Solar panels are portable, without any noise and environmentally friendly, so we use them to charge electronic devices and for lights in the evenings. Every night in camp, you have access to a charging station. Most customers also bring power banks that last a few days.
What Kind of Meals Can I expect while trekking?

The food in Pakistan is well-known for being excellent. During the trek, you,

  • Breakfasts feature omelettes, pancakes, cereals, jam, butter, honey, freshly made local bread, tea and coffee.
  • Packed Lunch will have sandwiches, boiled eggs, potatoes, cheese, a chocolate bar, dry fruits and munchies.
  • Dinners are beautifully made and feature a range of curries, soups, salads, noodles, pasta, lentils, rice dishes, meats, and desserts. End your meal on a sweet note with a selection from the dessert menu. Fresh mangoes and melons are available during the first week of the hike and are a welcome treat.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets are routinely accommodated.

How about other gear like a harness, crampons, and sleeping bags?
You will need a good quality, high-altitude sleeping bag (15), sleeping mat, walking stick, harness, jumar, karabiner, helmet and microspikes/crampons. Most of our clients bring these items, but you can hire them in Skardu.  All these items may be rented in Skardu for approximately one hundred dollars.
Accommodation before and after the trip?
We use international tourist standard hotels in Islamabad and Skardu. These hotels are centrally located and have international grades of 3- and 4-star. They feature restaurants with great food and air conditioning in the rooms for everyone’s comfort.
Our Pastore Peak package is based on two travellers sharing a hotel room and a sleeping tent. Solo travellers will be paired up with another traveller of the same gender in hotels and tents. Tents will be our home from Askoli/Johla until we arrive back in Skardu. Our tents are durable, weatherproof, and cosy. They offer adequate room for two tall people to sleep with plenty of space between them.
Single hotel rooms are available at $250 for trekkers who wish to sleep in a single room (5 nights). Single-sleeping ten is also available at $160 (entire trip).

Islamabad Airport is the nearest international airport to arrive at for the K2 base camp trek. It is Pakistan’s capital and a transportation hub. To minimise the effects of jet lag and give yourself extra time in case of flight or itinerary changes, we recommend being there the day before the tour officially begins. We will meet you in the arrival hall and transfer you to the group hotel. We can still arrange an airport pickup for you if you arrive here one to two days early; however, it will cost about $20 more if you arrive more than 2 days early (same applies for departure).

How about a flight from Islamabad to the mountains?

After spending the night in Islamabad, you take a spectacular mountain view flight from Islamabad to Skardu. The flight provides breathtaking views of the Himalayas, the Karakoram, and the Hindukush mountains, including Nanga Parbat and K2. Daily 2-3 flights fly from Islamabad to Skardu in the summer, and it does not get cancelled as often compared to the past, since Skardu Airport has been upgraded to an International airport. PIA also runs a direct flight from Dubai to Skardu in the summer, so perhaps it’s worth learning more about this option.

After completing the Pastore Peak, you will fly back to Islamabad from Skardu. Your trekking holiday package includes domestic flights and all the domestic airport transfers. If the flight is cancelled due to bad weather, you will drive to Skardu through the world-famous Karakoram Highway. Even though travelling by road will add more time to the trip, you have planned for this possibility. Flights to and from Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore have had a high success rate since Skardu Airport was converted into an International airport.

 Weight allowance during the trek?

Like other trekking holidays in the Karakoram region, the Pastore Peak has a standard luggage limit of 20 kg per traveller. You’re allowed 20 kg, which will be packed in a duffel bag, and our porter will transport them between camps. You will only carry your day bag with a bottle of water, sun cream, a hat, a book, etc. You have to pay extra if you bring a bag that weighs more than 20 kg. These prices are seasonal and calculated based on demand. Adding 5 kg to your load could add another $130-$140 to your bill. We know that you may need to bring more than the 15 kilograms that are typically allowed by other firms. We have increased the weight limit to 20 kg so you can have more items for the trek. Since the porters will carry all the equipment and supplies, weight limits are in place for their health and safety.

You can leave any unnecessary items at our office in Skardu or your group accommodation before starting the trekking session of this holiday.

Please be aware that we strictly follow the weight restriction enforced by the local authorities.

Does the trip have reliable electricity?
You will have reliable electricity up to Askole village. Outside of Askole, there is no access to electricity in the Baltoro region. The group will have solar panels or generators to charge mobile phones. All of your electrical devices can be charged up overnight, every night. During the hiking session, the solar panels will accompany us.
When is the best time to do the  Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La trek?
The Karakoram mountains do not have the Monsoon season, so the summer is the best time to do the Pastore Peak, K2 Base camp and Gondogoro la trek. Temperatures in the K2 region are mild from Early June till the end of September. Those are the best months to do adventure holidays in the Karakoram mountains. Expect snow, rain, wind, and falling temperatures, especially at night in June and July.
Note that the Gondogoro pass is only open from mid-June to the end of August.
How long does the Pastore Peak trip take?

The Pastore Peak trip from Islamabad to Islamabad usually takes 24 days. The climbing and hiking portion of the Pastore Peak is typically twenty days up and down, beginning from Johla camp, but sometimes starting in Askoli if the road is closed between Askoli and Johla.

How to prepare for the Pastore Peak?

Preparation and good planning are essential to complete this adventure holiday. The Pastore Peak is challenging, so physical training such as Aerobic conditioning, altitude training, and strength endurance will help you enjoy the Karakoram mountains and successfully reach the summit of Pastore Peak and the base camp of K2. Aerobic activities can teach your body to work hard on less oxygen, and elevation training will build your muscles to manage the elevation rise better.

The Pastore Peak climbing is challenging compared to the Everest trek in Nepal. However, anyone with a moderate fitness level can climb Pastore Peak and have a fantastic experience in the K2 region with the correct mentality, pace, and preparation. Find out more about getting ready for trekking holidays in the Karakoram mountains of Pakistan.

I am in my 60s, yet I’m in great shape. Will you let me come along?

Age is not an issue as long as you are healthy, moderately fit and used to high altitude and long-distance walking.  If you’re healthy, fit and used to travelling large distances, being in your 60s or 70s won’t be an issue. We often have several European and American clients in their fifties and sixties in each group.

Do you have a contingency plan if I get too tired to continue? Maybe one of the guides can show me the way back we came.

If you feel unwell, tired or can not continue the journey, our team will bring you back to Skardu. Our staff are fully prepared to take you back to Skardu safely. In Skardu, you can either stay at the group hotel for the duration of the trip and wait for the rest of the members in the group to return or change your return flight back home and depart early.

Do you have a backup plan if I get hurt? A satellite phone to make an emergency call?

The safety of our clients is our top priority, and we manage rescue operations very swiftly. We have successfully airlifted several clients from the K2 region in our last 4 decades of operations. We are in constant contact with the helicopter Rescue team, and they promptly dispatch a chopper whenever one of our clients needs to be picked up from the Baltoro area. We need the names and numbers of the insurance companies associated with your policies. You should get an insurance policy that includes your planned activities in Pakistan.

Three years ago, the local government installed a mobile phone antenna at Concordia to support the communication needs of the Baltoro area. Mobile networks cover most areas of this region. From the Baltoro region, our customers and employees have been using their mobile phones to keep in touch with loved ones back home. When climbing Pastore Peak and hiking to the K2 region, how is the weather?

During the Pastore Peak trip, the weather typically features sunshine and clear skies. The weather conditions you’ll encounter during this trek will also depend on the time you choose to go. July and August mark the peak season for hikers, offering the most stable, clear weather.

Although the trekking season generally provides pleasant weather, you should remain prepared for various conditions, particularly in the Karakoram mountainous areas, especially at higher altitudes. Strong winds, rain, and snow are all potential weather scenarios while hiking.

In the mountains, temperatures can fluctuate significantly, ranging from well below freezing at night to comfortably warm during the daytime. Given these potential temperature swings, we suggest bringing multiple layers of clothing that can be easily interchanged. Keep in mind that it gets colder as you ascend into higher elevations. When nearing the glacier, anticipate a substantial drop in temperature, so ensure you pack sufficient warm clothing.

How long does it take to complete the Pastore Peak?

The typical duration of Pastore Peak is 25 days from Islamabad to Islamabad. Although the real time spent hiking to base camp is closer to 20 days (depending on the weather).

Meeting your group, experiencing the attractions in Islamabad and Skardu, travelling to the journey’s beginning point in Askole, meeting the locals, completing the trek, and returning to Islamabad are all part of the lengthy itinerary. Unexpected road blockades and flight cancellations are part of this adventure holiday, but our staff will do their best to complete your journey as smoothly as possible.

How difficult is Pastore Peak?

Climbing the Pastor Peak, hiking to K2 Base Camp and crossing the Gondogoro Pass is arduous and time-consuming, but with a reward for spectacular mountain scenery. A high degree of physical fitness and general health are required to join this trek.

Your hike through the Baltoro Glacier will be slow and challenging due to the lack of a well-defined track, high altitude and slippery scree.

Before attempting this trip, you should have some experience with long-distance hiking and high altitude.

Is it risky to cross the Gondogoro la?

The K2 and Gondogoro la trek carries the same inherent dangers as any other hike of similar height. The base camp is located at around 5,150 meters, and Gondogoro la Pass is 5,550 meters; therefore, it is essential to acclimate to the higher altitude before continuing the journey.

Take time walking on the glacier and the ice to avoid slipping and spraining your ankle. Using a Harness, Helmet, Jumar, crampons or microspikes is recommended for good balance while walking on the ice glacier and crossing the Gondogoro Pass.

Do I need travel Insurance for Pastore Peak?
It is not mandatory, but we highly recommend travel insurance to join our Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La Trek. Make sure your insurance company is aware of your travel itinerary. The policy must cover emergency medical care, helicopter rescue from high altitudes, transportation home, and air ambulance services.
Which journey is better: going to Everest Base Camp or K2?

Are you debating between a trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and a K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro La trek? To help you determine which of these two classic journeys is best for you, we’ve laid out some key distinctions between K2 and Everest.

Thousands of people participate in the Everest Base Camp Trek each year. As a result of its widespread use, the paths are always clear and easy to follow, but overcrowded. The K2 Base Camp Trek is a popular option for trekkers and adventure lovers, although it has been relatively unexplored.

The K2 Base Camp and Gondogoro la Trek are likewise less popular and less noisy than the EBC Trek today. Pastore Peak and K2 Base Camp is the route if you seek a more alone, natural and far-flung experience. The summit of Pastore Peak and the K2 Base Camp Trek offer breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding 8,000ers and a visit to the magnificent Concordia, where glaciers and rock meet.

Forests, rivers, freezing cliffs, tea houses and alpine terrain are some of the diverse landscapes you’ll encounter on the EBC journey. Meanwhile, the Pastore, K2 and Gondogoro la hike is dry, camping, sandy and ice glaciers before you reach the Rocky mountains, mighty Baltoro glacier and Godwin-Austen ice glaciers.

While both hikes are in the Karakoram and Himalayan mountains, they are very different experiences, so pick the one that appeals to you the most. Perhaps one day, you will accomplish both!

Introduction

Trango Adventure is a licensed and authorised Tour operator in Pakistan. Trango Adventure has a long track record of organising trekking and climbing trips to Pastore Peak. We had several groups complete the Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La trek every year. We designed our itinerary based on over 40 Years of experience, which is the best in terms of acclimatisation, safety and enjoyment.

We intend to keep to the day-by-day itinerary detailed below, although there might be some flexibility due to local conditions or other factors beyond our control. If this is the case, the trek leader will do everything possible to work out the changes to the itinerary to minimise your inconvenience.

Adventure travel requires an open and flexible attitude. You may experience extreme conditions, unpredictable weather and last-minute changes to the itinerary beyond our control. The ability to work in a team is an important aspect of all of our trips.

SIGHTSEEING & PREPARATION DAY, SKARDU

Skardu is the Capital of the ancient Baltistan Kingdom, so there is so much to see and explore. It is the gateway of many famous treks and Climbing expeditions, including Pastreo Peak,  K2 and Gondogoro La Trek. In the morning, you can walk up to the remains of Kharpocho Fort (built in the early 1700s), which overlooks the town and has a great view of the Indus River. If you are into photography, then this is a perfect location to take photos of  Skaradu Town at sunrise or sunset. (We can arrange this for you.) You can also walk to a small village called Organic Village, which grows all its crops organically. The afternoon is free to explore, so perhaps you would like to take an optional jeep tour to Satpara Lake or explore the local bazaar.

Notre, if the road between Askoli and Johla is closed, then today you will travel to Askoli for a night stay.

D-4

DRIVE TO JOHLA VIA ASKOLI (3,100 m) 8 HOURS

The following day, you will drive along the Mighty Indus, Shigar, then the Braldu River to Shigar Valley towards Askoli. Askoli is the last village before entering the heart of Karakoram. You will spend some time in Askole to meet your porters. Askoli is high above the thundering Braldu River. Askole is a single street of wooden houses backed by irrigated fields of corn, potatoes and groves of apricot trees.

After a short break in Askole, you will wend your way through the lanes and fields of Askole, the last settlement you will encounter on our trek to Pastore Peak and Concordia. Watching the local people go about their daily business is a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of the hardy Balti people. The valley opens up to reveal the Biafo Glaciers, the first taste of moraine walking in the Karakoram. Cross the snout of the ice glacier and descend to the green spot beside the Braldu River at Korofong.

From Korfong, you will continue your Pastore Peak, K2 and Gondogoro La trek towards Johla campsite. Continue your day by following the road up a side valley and a detour to cross the fast-flowing Braldu River by a bridge. The views are impressive, with Bakhor Das (5,809m) and Paiju Peak’s needles in the distance.

We will be in the Johla camp by late afternoon. Spend the afternoon relaxing by the river, or do a short acclimatisation walk if we wish. On a sunny day, the sun’s rays can be hot, so it is essential to keep sun cream and lots of water with you.

TREK TO PAJU (3,380m) 6 HOURS WALKING

Today will be your first walking day of the Pastore Peak,  K2 and Gondogoro La trek. After organising all the equipment and supplies, our porters load up for the journey ahead towards Paju.

The path runs for a while at the edge of the Braldu River before climbing to higher ground and allowing us excellent views of the impressive Paiju Peak. You have to negotiate a couple of streams today, and depending on the melting of the glaciers above, you may have to ford these (sports sandals or old trainers can be useful). Paiju is a green oasis under the shadows of Paiju Peak (6,611m). From this camp, you have the first views of the immense Baltoro Glacier and granite peaks of the Trango and Cathedral groups, and if the weather is clear, you may see a glimpse of K2.

TREK TO KHOBURTSE (3,760m) 7 HOURS WALKING

Another early start today. From your camp at Paiju, a walk of approximately one hour brings you to the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. After viewing the outpouring of meltwater from the ice, we now climb up onto the back of this great beast. At this point, the glacier’s ice is covered by rubble and rocks, and although we are following a trail used by many expeditions, going here can be tough. The trail undulated as we climbed over the swells of the flowing glacier, and it is fascinating to think that the stones underfoot could have come from the summit of Broad Peak, Gasherbrum or K2. Gradually, we work our way across the glacier to its south side, where we can use a path along the lateral moraine. Heading roughly east, we continue, sometimes on the moraine and sometimes down beside the glacier, until we reach a side valley. At this point, it may be possible to continue more or less directly by climbing up onto the glacier. Or, if the glacier is not easily accessible, we will turn off into the valley for approximately half an hour to reach a point where we can cross the meltwater stream (sandals or old trainers are required). Finally arriving at the camping place at Khorburtse (3,760m), we have sensational views of the Cathedral Towers, the Trango Group and the striking rock tower of Uli Biaho. A great day of trekking over difficult and mixed terrain.

TREAK TO URDUKAS (4,130m) 4 HOUR WALKING

Today is a short day but quite hard work as we walk up the undulating moraine and gain height all the way. We continue east beside the Baltoro Glacier either along the lateral moraine or sometimes on the glacier itself, passing the ship-like prow of Great Trango and the isolated pillar of the ‘Nameless Tower’ to our next camp at Urdukas. It has sensational views of the Trango Towers to the west and directly opposite, and almost a mile away across the valley, the vast rock walls of Cathedral Peak and Lobsang rise like ramparts above the glacier. This is a truly awesome place. We should reach here in time for a late lunch, and the rest of the afternoon is free to camp, relax and soak up our fabulous Mountain vistas.

ACCLIMATISING DAY AT URDUKAS (4,130m)

From many years of Pastore Peak experience, we have learnt that taking a rest day at Urdukas has worked well; the advantages of spending an extra night here are very helpful. It helps the acclimatisation process and has proved more effective than a rest day at Paiju.

This is the last organised campsite on grassy slopes off the main glacier. It also has facilities for washing and cleaning. There is a pleasant walk to a higher altitude behind the camp through grassy slopes full of alpine flowers. Climbing high & sleeping low is the best way to get used to the high altitude before we reach the Pastore Peak.

TREAK TO GORO II (4,250m) 6 to 7 HOURS WALKING

Leaving Urdukas behind, you will follow the moraine edge eastwards until it is possible to climb up onto the broad back of the glacier. The trail on the Baltoro goes past the Yermanandu glacier, which flows from Masherbrum, and there are views of Muztagh (7,270m), Masherbrum (7,800m) and Gasherbrum IV at the head of the Baltoro and Concordia. We are high now and camping on one of the largest pieces of ice outside the polar regions, so wrap up warmly for the cooler nights ahead. The campsite is on the glacier where ledges have been levelled out for the tents.

TREAK TO CONCORDIA (4,600m) 5 HOURS WALKING

Today you will Trek to Concordia through what must arguably be the most spectacular mountain scenery anywhere in the world! Our approach to Concordia continues along the heaving swells of the Baltoro Glacier as we pass Mustagh Tower (7,284m). Ahead of us, Gasherbrum IV (7,925m) acts like a beacon drawing us on, whilst at some points on today’s walk, we can also see Gasherbrum II (8,035m), which peeks out to the right of Gasherbrum IV. As we make our way up the Baltoro, the aptly named Broad Peak (8,051m) comes into view above the ridge connecting Marble Peak and Crystal Peak on our left.

K2 keeps itself hidden until the very moment we reach Concordia, when suddenly its full height is revealed in sweeping lines that climb almost 4000 metres from the valley floor to the summit – a sight that will never be forgotten. Concordia is a wider area where glaciers coming down from K2 meet those from the Gasherbrums and Chogolisa. It is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular places on the planet, and here you can stand within 24 kilometres of no fewer than four eight-thousanders and ten of the world’s thirty highest peaks! We set up our camp at approximately 4,500 metres on a moraine ridge surrounded by jagged peaks, including Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak, Chogolisa, Crystal Peak, Marble Peak, Baltoro Kangri, Broad Peak and K2.

TREAK TO BROAD PEAK BASE CAMP (5,000m) 4 HOURS WALKING

Today, you will trek to Broad Peak Base Camp. From Concordia, the route passes through some jumbled ice fins and moraine ridges before gaining the medial moraine of the Godwin Austen glacier. Broad Peak Base Camp is located on this moraine near the base of the climbing route on Broad Peak. One of the best views of K2 is from Broad Peak Base Camp. Enjoy the marvellous situation of Karakoram.

TREK TO K2 BASE CAMP & BACK TO PASTORE PEAK (5,100m) 5 HOURS WALKING

Rise and shine early to witness a fantastic sunrise view over K2 and Broad Peak. Today, an early start for a scenic walk up to the Mighty K2 Base Camp. For many people, a visit to the actual base camp used by climbers on K2 will be a highlight of their Trek. We can stop and admire the sensational view of K2 in one direction, and the other looks back to Concordia, framed by Mitre Peak and the bulk of Chogolisa, also known as ‘Broad Peak‘. On the return, you stay either at Broad Peak Base Camp or Pastore Peak Base Camp.

CLIMBING PERIOD OF PASTORE PEAK

Today, we will trek to Pastore Peak Base Camp, where we will establish our campsite and spend the night. The following morning will be dedicated to training on the Pastore Glacier in preparation for the ascent.

On Day 15, we will climb Pastore Peak, a challenging ascent expected to take approximately 10-12 hours. The next day, we will return to Broad Peak Base Camp, followed by a journey to Ali Camp the following morning.

Throughout the climbing period, our dedicated staff will remain stationed at Base Camp, ensuring logistical support. Our experienced high-altitude climber will lead the ascent, fixing ropes and guiding the team to the summit.

TREAK TO ALI CAMP (5,000m) 6 HOURS WALKING

After successfully climbing Pastore Peak, you will leave the Pastore Peak base camp behind, striking out on a far less travelled route which will take you along the Upper Baltoro, one of the glaciers coming down from Chogolisa that feed the huge glacial junction of Concordia. From Concordia, there are several moraine ridges to scramble over to reach the Vigne Glacier, which is flatter with fewer crevasses. After 5 – 7 hours of trekking along the Upper Baltoro towards the enormous bulk of Chogolisa at the head of the valley, you eventually reach the confluence of this glacier with the West Vigne Glacier, which sweeps down from the base of the Gondogoro La. Here on the moraine beside the junction, we make our home for the night at ‘Ali Camp’ (4,800m).

We would usually reach Ali camp around mid-day or the early afternoon, settle in, and your trip leader will organise a skills session to practice the simple techniques of using a jumar to safeguard moving on fixed lines.

CROSS GONDOGORO LA TO KHUSPANG (5,600m) 10-11 HOURS WALKING

Today you will have an early start before the lights break in the morning. Probably around 2 a.m., we will start climbing Gondogoro La. This is to minimise the risk of rockfall on the descent down the Hushe side of the pass.

After fuelling up in the dining tent with breakfast, you will check your crampons and harnesses and set off roped together onto the West Vigne Glacier. In the black, star-studded, crisp night air, you will make your way slowly over the sparkling glacier illuminated in pools of light from your head torches.

This is a tough day, but the views from the top of Gondogoro Pass make it worthwhile. All four 8,000 are visible in one direction, and the other way looks down the Hushe Valley with the beautiful Laila Peak.

Depending on the snow conditions, it may be necessary to rope up to cross the glacier before getting to the base of the pass. There are several sections with fixed ropes in place, which can be used as a handrail. We suggest clipping a carabiner and sling onto the rope for safety.

If the snow conditions are better and the trail has already been broken, the pass can be ascended faster (in about 4-5 hours). After approximately 4 hours of climbing from the West Vigne Glacier, with views opening up behind us, we reach the summit of the pass, an incredible and exhilarating feeling. The view from the top of the Pass is breathtaking, with 4 eight thousand eight-thousand-metre peaks in view and close at hand, the Karakoram giant K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II. The top of the Gondogoro Pass is a broad shoulder, and on the far side, the ground drops precipitously away, and we find ourselves looking down into the Gondogoro Valley. Directly opposite are the faces of the Trinity peaks, but all eyes will be drawn to the beautiful spire of Laila Peak (6,096), and then further down, following the curve of the glacier, we can see the perfect cone of Masherbrum II.

The Hushe side of the Gondogoro pass can be a tricky descent, although fixed ropes are placed at the top. The slope starts at a sustained 50 degrees on snow and finishes on loose scree towards the bottom. On reaching the green oasis of Khuspang, you can put your feet up and relax, remembering the exciting moments of the day in the Karakoram.

A rescue team from Hush Village is based at Ali camp to assist and help you cross the Gondogoro Pass safely. They have been running this operation successfully for the last few years for a fee of $70-100 USD per international tourist, which we ( Trango Adventure) Pay. This is included in the price.

Important note: the crossing of the Gondogoro La depends on good weather and conditions on the approach to the pass. If it is not possible to safely ascend the Pass, the group will walk back down the Baltoro glacier to Askole.

We believe our itinerary maximises our chances of crossing the pass because:

  • Everyone should be well acclimatised due to the gradual ascent on the trek and also from the careful monitoring of everyone’s acclimatisation by using the pulse odometer. We have nights at Concordia and one night at Broad Peak Base Camp.
  • We have a buffer day in case of delays or bad weather on Day 19 of the itinerary.
  • Accommodation
  • Full-service Camping

D-19

SPARE TREK DAY IN CASE OF DELAYS

It is like the Gondogoro La Trek journey in that there are possible delays, and it is necessary to build in some time to allow for this. In case of bad weather on Day 14, these days will give us another chance to cross the Gondogoro pass. If we successfully cross the pass on Day 19, you may enjoy rest or exploration days, or the other option is to continue down to Hushe to spend a night.

KHUSPANG TO SAICHO (3,350m) 6-7 HOURS WALKING

After a couple of minutes of easy walking, you get onto the glacier where you pick your way across the moraine and ice, finally crossing the glacier up to the camping site to reach Dalsangpa, which means ‘field of flowers’. There is a spectacular view of Masherbrum and the glacier cascading down from Masherbrum Pass.

It is a beautiful walk to Shaicho as we pass yak pastures and see the first trees since Paiju. Shaicho is a small village. At this point, we have returned to more benign altitudes where things grow, and the trees become bigger than us as we continue the descent of the moraine to the valley bottom. We walk to our campsite at Saitcho (3,350m), a sandy area of sparse grasses beside the river at the junction of the Gondogoro and Charakusa valleys. This will be the first night in almost a week where we can breathe the oxygen-rich air below 4,000 metres and sleep to the sounds of running water!

TREK TO HUSHE 2 HOURS, DRIVE TO SKARDU 7-HOURS

Today will be our last walking day of Pasotre Peak; it will be an easy walk to Hushe village. Hushe is quite large with a warren of alleys and buildings. Most traditional houses are built from rounded river stones and are 2 storeys high, with space for the animals downstairs and people upstairs. Hushe also has modern and newly built houses, a shop, a school, a hotel and a trekkers’ campsite.

Our vehicles will already be waiting for us, so we make an early start for the return drive through the lush green Khapulu Valley. We have a faster, smoother journey on a paved road following the great Indus River into Skardu. Arriving in Skardu town, we will check into our hotel, and there will be time for a welcome shower and clean up before sitting down to dinner. Tonight, we will enjoy the comfort of a real bed.

FLY BACK TO ISLAMABAD

If the weather is clear, then you will take the flight back to Islamabad. Skardu Airport is a 40-minute drive from the hotel along a good road lined with poplar trees. Boarding our plane, we have an exciting flight out of the valley, once again passing by Nanga Parbat before turning south for Islamabad. Arriving in the Pakistani capital after a period in the mountains is always a strange experience, and it takes a little time to get used to the hustle and bustle, especially the traffic. Our private bus will be waiting at the airport to transfer us to the group hotel, and once we have settled in, it will be time to take lunch (unless we have experienced unusual flight delays). After lunch, the rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing or to relax at the hotel. Your Guide will advise you on the possibilities for sightseeing. Shopping for hand-made Iranian & Afghan rugs is a popular option. This evening, we come together for a celebratory meal at the hotel or in a local restaurant.

In Case of Flight cancellation, we will drive down the Karakoram Highway. We will arrive in Chillas late afternoon.

CONTINGENCY DAY IN CASE OF DELAYS - ISLAMABAD

If driving down the Karakoram Highway, you will arrive in Islamabad late afternoon. If you managed to fly the day before, then you will spend today sightseeing in Islamabad. In the evening, we will have a final group meal.

Skardu is a ‘weather-dependent’ airport, which means the planes will only fly here if the visibility allows a line of sight to the runway by the pilot on the approach. Fortunately, the weather is mostly clear in the Karakoram, but local weather conditions can bring clouds and rain from time to time. If we cannot fly, we will travel down to Islamabad by road along the spectacular Karakoram Highway. If we fly up to Skardu, this will be a bonus as it is a fantastic travel experience in its own right. The drive down the Indus River to Islamabad takes two days, so this is an important contingency day to allow for this. If we have flown to Islamabad, this will be a further day for sightseeing in the capital, and your leader will advise the group on the options available for today.

MEAL PLAN

ACCOMMODATION

During the Pastore Peak, the group will spend 3 nights in Islamabad at a good international tourist standard hotel (3-star). The group will also have a night in a tourist-standard hotel in Skardu before and after the trek. Accommodation at each of these hotels is twin-sharing with en-suite facilities. Whilst on trek, there will be a total of 17 nights camping in 2-person tents. You will be paired with another single client of the same sex if you are travelling by yourself.

You can hire a single tent while on trek for an additional cost. Please note that single tent hire does not include single rooms in hotels. For the 5 hotel nights, single rooms are available for a supplementary cost. Additional hotel nights in Islamabad are also available. Contact us for hotel prices and single supplement costs. Hotels are subject to availability, and prices may vary.

INTERNAL FLIGHT

SKARDU FLIGHTS

Skardu is a weather-dependent airport. Since the valley is surrounded by high mountains, planes can only land here in good visibility, and this means flights to and from Skardu are never guaranteed. The planes do fly more often than not, but cancellations can and do occur, and in these circumstances, we will travel by road. If we did not do this, the groups would risk being stranded in Islamabad, and you should beware of companies that say they will only fly to Skardu, as this may mean you have no possibility of trekking.

HEALTH & VACCINATION

You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you specifically require any vaccinations or other preventive measures. You should be up to date with routine courses and boosters as recommended in the UK, e.g. diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella, along with hepatitis A and typhoid. Malarial prophylaxis is discretionary for this trip. Malaria exists in the area around Islamabad. However, incidences of urban transmission of malaria are extremely low. In Skardu and the mountains, there is no malaria risk. On holidays to more remote areas in Pakistan, you should also have a dentist check-up. A good online resource is Travel Health Pro.

Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime-biting mosquitoes. Currently, no vaccine or prophylaxis is available, and therefore, the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

INSURANCE

We highly recommend that you have adequate travel insurance for your trip with Trango Adventure Pakistan. We recognise the complexity and variety of choices in the insurance market and know that many of you either have your preferred insurer or have annual multi-trip cover in place already. If this is the case, please ensure that your insurer is aware of your Trango Adventure itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken.

Trango Adventure does not provide any advice on travel insurance, although it is highly recommended that you have travel insurance which covers the activities you are likely to be undertaking on your holiday.

MOUNTAIN GUIDE & SUPPORT STAFF

The group will be led by an experienced Mountain Guide. During the Pastore Peak expedition, the group will be accompanied by a full support crew, including a cook and kitchen crew, as well as porters to carry all equipment and personal trek bags.

ALTITUDE

Pastore Peak involves going to a very high altitude. During your trip, you will be spending at least one night above 4,000 metres and/or trekking to 5,000 metres or above. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but we must follow some simple rules to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday, you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude on our website, which can be viewed via the link below. Unless you have previous experience of trekking above 4000 metres, you should consult one of our trekking experts before embarking on this holiday.

CLIMATE

From mid-June to August, expect to encounter temperatures as high as 30°C at Skardu and 25°C at Hushe and Askole. In June and early July, there will be a good covering of snow on the slopes leading to and from the Gondogoro La, and we may also encounter snow on the upper part of the Baltoro. Above 4,000 metres of snow can fall at any time of the year. At any time of the season, the nighttime temperature above 4,000 metres is likely to drop to freezing or below and at our highest camps may reach minus 10 or 15°C. The weather is generally good throughout the summer season, with clear skies and little rain or snow. However, it is difficult to predict, and short-lived storms can occur at any time of the year.

PASSPORT & VISA

The information that we provide is for UK/US passport holders. Please check the Official Pakistan visa application website for other nationalities. We will assist and provide all the required documents to apply for a trekking visa. However, it is your responsibility to get the Visa and carry the correct travel documents and visas for your holiday.  Visa requirements and charges are subject to change without notice. You should have at least two blank pages in your passport for each country that you plan to visit and a validity of at least six months.

TREKKING VISA PAKISTAN

All nationalities require a Trekking visa to enter the Baltoro region in Pakistan. Foreigners’ entry is not allowed in the Baltoro region with a standard tourist visa. The trekking visa fee is approximately USD 50, and you must apply online before departure. Trekking visa processing duration is usually 6-8 weeks, so we recommend all our clients apply as early as possible to avoid delays. Trango Adventures will send you all the required documents to apply for the trekking visa. Trekking Visa applications can be made ONLINE. For more information about Pakistan visas, visit our Blog and News section.

Visit the Government of Pakistan’s official Visa site for information about online visa applications. www.visa.nadra.gov.pk

REFUND

Secure your place with a deposit of $170 and pay the remaining amount when you arrive in Pakistan. The deposit amount is fully refundable if you or we cancel the trip due to the COVID-19 situation, security or changes in the political situation in Pakistan or your home country.

EQUIPMENT LIST

As a general rule, you should always try to keep the weight of your equipment to a minimum while packing for your Pasotre Peak trip. The packed weight of your Trek bag whilst Trekking, including your sleeping bag and mattress, should be no more than 20 kg. This limit is set by the porters and strictly enforced, and bags will be weighed before setting off on the trek. Anything not required on the trek can be left at the group hotel in Islamabad. We will send you a detailed item list closer to your Holiday departure.
