Expedition Overview
Khosar Gang (6,400m) is a majestic mountain nestled in the scenic Shigar Valley of Baltistan, Pakistan, also known as Koser Gunge. This trekking and climbing adventure attracts a lot of enthusiasts because it is a challenging peak for beginners and offers breathtaking landscapes. Set against the backdrop of the Karakoram Range, one of the most rugged and awe-inspiring landscapes on Earth, Khosar Gang offers unparalleled opportunities for trekking and climbing. Unlike many peaks in the region, reaching Khosar Gang’s Base Camp is quick and relatively easy, allowing us to offer a comprehensive 17-day itinerary. With 12 days dedicated to the trek and climb, this adventure promises to immerse you in the wild beauty of the Karakoram.
Trango Adventure is a licensed company, and we have been organising the Khosar Gang Expedition and other adventure holidays in Pakistan for the last 40 years. Trango Adventure operates 16-18 days long Expeditions to Khosar Gang. We can also customise this Trekking peak to suit your tastes and interests, so you can have a tailor-made Khosar Gang Expedition.
Our Khosar Gang expedition adventure begins in Islamabad. Islamabad International Airport is the nearest international Airport to arrive for all the adventure holidays to the Karakoram mountains in Pakistan. Our Representative will meet and greet you at Islamabad International Airport and then transfer you to the hotel. The rest of the day is for rest to recover from the long journey. We will meet again in the afternoon for a briefing about the Khosar Gang. The next day, you will catch a spectacular mountain view flight to Skardu. You will see K2, Nanga Parbat and many other famous Karakoram and Himalayan Peaks on the flight. After 45 minutes, you will arrive in Skardu. Our staff will transfer you from Skardu airport to the group hotel.
Skardu is a mountain town, the capital of the Baltistan region. It is the gateway to K2, Baltoro, Gondogoro La, Broad Peak, and other valleys. In Skardu, trekkers and climber usually do their final purchasing and top-ups for their onward trekking and expedition trips. After spending two nights in Skardu, you will have a short drive to Tsildi, just 45 kilometres away. Tsildi is a small village, where you will have a short break and walk for 6 hours to Khosar Gang Base Camp. Khosar Gang base camp is 3,800 meters above sea level in the Shigar Valley.
After spending one night at the base camp under the starry canvas, the trekking and climbing session of your Khosar Gang Expedition will start from here onwards. We will carry our loads to camp 1 and sleep there for better acclimatisation. For the following 4-6 days, we will climb to Camp 2, summit Khosar Gang and return to Base Camp.
After the climbing period of the expedition, you will follow the same Itinerary back to Skardu and Islamabad. Spend one night in Islamabad, then transfer you to Islamabad International Airport for your flight back home.
We strongly believe that our four decades of expertise and experienced staff can run your “Khosar Gang Expedition” successfully.

Map and Itinerary of Khosar Gang Expedition in Pakistan
INTRODUCTION
Trango Adventure has been arranging the Khosar Gang Expedition in Pakistan for many years. We have had groups successfully climb Khosar Gang Mountain on previous occasions. We designed our itinerary based on over 40 years of experience, which is the best for safety, acclimatisation, and enjoyment.
NOTE. Please note that we’ll do our best to stick to the planned schedule for your adventure in the remote mountain region. However, unpredictable weather, road conditions, vehicle issues, flight delays, porter availability, and trekker health may lead to changes. Our Mountain guide will work to keep things on track, but flexibility is key due to the nature of the journey. Your easy-going attitude will be appreciated!

ISLAMABAD TO SKARDU FLIGHT (2,230m) 45 MINUTES
Today, if the weather is good, you’ll experience a spectacular 45-minute mountain view flight to Skardu, the capital of Baltistan. During the flight, you’ll be treated to the breathtaking Himalayas and the Karakoram mountain range. If the sky is clear, you might see Nanga Parbat, the world’s 9th-highest peak, and possibly K2 and Gondogoro Pass.
Once you land in Skardu around lunchtime, you can explore the local bazaars, visit the historical fort, take in the beauty of Sadpara Lake, or check out ancient rock inscriptions. One notable site is the 8th-century Manthal Lord Buddha Rock, which bears traces of Buddhist monks and pilgrims who once influenced the area before the arrival of Islam.
In case the flight is cancelled due to weather conditions, we’ll take a scenic drive on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) to Chilas or Naran for an overnight stay. The journey from Islamabad to Chilas is approximately 461 kilometres, and it takes about 8-9 hours by road.

SUMMIT KHOSAR GANG
We will hike to Camp 1 and then ascend to Camp 2. The next day will be our best shot at reaching the summit, starting at 02:30 if the weather is on our side. The summit slopes are typically covered in snow, but warm weather or recent snowfall might make the mountain a bit icy.
Our goal is to be efficient on the fixed ropes before sunrise, reaching around 5,500 meters by 04:30 as the sun breaks through the clouds. The slope remains consistently steep until we encounter a small bergschrund at 5,750 meters, signalling the start of a brief steeper section. This leads to 5,800 meters and the beginning of the summit slopes. As we ascend, the terrain becomes easier with a gentler slope and snow instead of ice. Clouds may come and go as we approach the summit, revealing stunning views of Haramosh and Spantik to the West and Rakaposhi in the distance. From the summit ridge, we’ll catch sight of the Ogre and Latok to the North, and if the clouds clear, breathtaking views of the Karakoram 8000m peaks to the East.
We aim to reach the 6,040-meter summit by around 08:30. After a well-deserved rest and some photo opportunities, we’ll begin the descent, a personal altitude record for some. The journey back to Camp 2 will take approximately 4 hours, testing our skills in abseiling and downclimbing on steep, icy slopes. Keep in mind that the sun may soften the ice during the descent, making it a bit less firm than during the ascent earlier in the day.

DESCEND TO KHOSAR GANG BASE CAMP
After a night at Camp 2, we slowly descend to base camp. Throughout the trek and climb of the Khosar Gang Expedition, our team takes care of setting up and taking down the tents.

TRAVEL BACK TO SKARDU
Start your day early in Silde Village as our ready-to-go vehicles await you. The return drive to Skardu begins with a thrilling adventure over a suspension bridge and a scenic route along the Shigar River. Once we ascend from the gorge, the road becomes smoother as we head down the lush Shigar Valley until it meets the mighty Indus River. The journey then continues seamlessly on a well-paved road alongside the Indus, leading us straight to Skardu.
Upon reaching the town, we’ll promptly check into our hotel. Take advantage of some well-deserved relaxation with a refreshing shower before joining us for a delightful dinner. Tonight, revel in the luxury of a comfortable bed for a restful night’s sleep.

FLY BACK TO ISLAMABAD:
If the weather is good, we’ll head to Skardu Airport for a 40-minute drive from the hotel. The road is beautifully surrounded by poplars and other local trees. From Skardu, we’ll catch an exciting flight back to Islamabad, enjoying views of Nanga Parbat before heading south. Arriving in Islamabad after a time in the Karakoram mountains might feel a bit overwhelming at first, with all the hustle, bustle, and traffic.
A private bus will be ready at Islamabad airport to take us to the group hotel in Islamabad. After settling in, we’ll have lunch, unless there are unexpected flight delays. The rest of the day is yours for sightseeing or relaxing at the hotel. Our staff can help with sightseeing options, and shopping for handmade Iranian and Afghan rugs is a popular option. In the evening, we’ll gather for the last meal in Pakistan to celebrate our Khosar Gang Expedition.
Note: If the flight is cancelled, we’ll take a scenic drive down the Karakoram Highway, arrive in Chillas/Naran in the afternoon and travel to Islamabad on the following morning.

CONTINGENCY DAY IN CASE OF DELAYS, ISLAMABAD:
If we manage to catch a flight the day before, we’ll spend today exploring Islamabad and enjoy a group meal in the evening.
Keep in mind that Skardu Airport depends on weather conditions. Planes can only fly there if the pilot has clear visibility of the runway. While the Karakoram region usually has good weather, local conditions might bring clouds and rain. If flying isn’t possible, we’ll take the spectacular Karakoram Highway to Islamabad. Flying to Skardu is a great bonus, offering a fantastic travel experience.
Since the drive from Skardu to Islamabad takes two days, having a contingency day is crucial. This allows for unexpected delays. If we’ve flown to Islamabad, it’s an extra day for sightseeing, and our leader will guide us on available options.

SKARDU FLIGHTS
Skardu Airport relies on weather conditions for flights. Due to its mountainous surroundings, planes can only land when visibility is good. Flights to and from Skardu are not always guaranteed, though they usually operate. However, cancellations can happen, leading to travel by road instead. This precaution is essential to avoid the risk of being stranded in Islamabad. Be cautious of companies that exclusively offer flights to Skardu, as this might limit your trekking options. Refer to our ‘Important Note’ about travel on the Karakoram Highway for additional details.
Before embarking on your trip, it’s essential to consult your doctor or travel clinic to determine if you need any vaccinations or precautions. Make sure you’re up-to-date on routine vaccinations like diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella, as well as hepatitis A and typhoid.
While malaria prophylaxis is optional for this journey, it’s worth noting that malaria is present in the area around Islamabad, though urban transmission is rare. In Skardu and mountainous regions, there’s no malaria risk. If you’re heading to more remote areas, consider a dental check-up as well.
For reliable health information, check out Travel Health Pro online. Be aware that places you’ll visit may pose a risk of dengue fever, a tropical viral disease transmitted by daytime-biting mosquitoes. Unfortunately, there’s no specific vaccine or prophylaxis for dengue, so the best prevention is to avoid getting bitten. We recommend taking precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

We suggest getting travel insurance for a safe and worry-free travel experience with Trango Adventure in Pakistan. Please note that Trango Adventure doesn’t offer advice on travel insurance, but we highly advise having coverage for your holiday activities. It’s especially important to consider insurance when booking, as some airlines do not refund flight tickets.

This team includes high-altitude porters, an assistant guide, a cook, a kitchen crew, and porters to carry all the necessary equipment and personal trek bags.
The Khosar Gang Expedition takes you to a high altitude. During the trip, you’ll spend at least one night above 5,000 meters and might climb to 5,500 meters or more. Don’t worry; our bodies can handle various altitudes, but we need to follow some simple rules to adjust well. Before joining the trip, check our website for tips on trekking at high altitudes using the link below. If you haven’t trekked above 4,000 meters before, talk to one of our trekking experts before starting the adventure.
Climate
In the summer months, from mid-June to August, Skardu can get as hot as 30°C, while Shigar reaches temperatures around 25°C. During June and early July, there will be snow on the slopes to and from the Khosar Gang summit. Above 4000 meters, it can snow anytime. Night temperatures above 4,000 meters can go below freezing, reaching around minus 10 or 15°C at the highest camps. Generally, the weather is good in summer with clear skies, little rain, and snow. However, mountain weather is unpredictable, and short storms can happen at any time of the year.

Equipment List
Before you head off for your Khosar Gang Expedition, we’ll send you a detailed list of things you’ll need. A key tip is to keep your gear as light as possible. When trekking, make sure your packed trek bag, including your sleeping bag and mattress, doesn’t weigh more than 35 kg. The porters are strict about this limit, and they weigh your bags before you start trekking.
If there’s anything you won’t need during the trek, you can leave it at the group hotel in Islamabad or Skardu. Also, note that your mountaineering gear will be packed separately in a communal bag every morning, and you will have it in the afternoon.
