Trek Overview:
Annapurna Circuit Trek (also known as Annapurna Thorong Pass) is a world-class trekking route with the ancient valley of Manang, one of the most scenic and adventurous trekking routes. This trekking trail goes behind the ring of impressive high peaks, including Hyun Chuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna l, Ganggapurna, Annapurna III and Machhapuchhre. Trek to this awe-inspiring scene ascends the Annapurna foothills through forested hillside where we are given a taste of Nepal’s magical and majestic vistas with a spectacular sunrise over the mountains.
We cross the high pass of Thorong pass (5416m.) and descend to Muktinathnath temple. Trek through down to Muktinath with the setting Hindu pilgrimage temple and Buddhist Monasteries. Muktinath is a famous pilgrimage place for both Hindus and Buddhists. It contains a wall of 108 waterspouts in the shape of cows’ heads spouting sacred water, the Jwala Mai temple with a perpetual spouting flame and the pagoda-styled Vishnu Mandir, all of which make up the combination of earth, fire and water. The trekking route goes further to Kagbeni, where the hidden kingdom of Mustang trekking starts.

You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you specifically require any vaccinations or other preventive measures. You should be up to date with routine courses and boosters as recommended in the UK e.g. diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella), along with hepatitis A and typhoid. Malarial prophylaxis is discretionary for this trip. On holidays to more remote areas, you should also have a dentist check-up. A good online resource is Travel Health Pro. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime-biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available and therefore the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take precautions to avoid mosquito bites.

ALTITUDE
This holiday involves going to high altitudes. During your trip, you will reach altitudes over 3,500 metres. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but it is important that we follow some simple rules to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday you should read the advice on trekking at high altitude. You can also talk to one of our trekking experts if you have any concerns about altitude.
CLIMATE
October to November and March to May are the best times for trekking in Nepal. These months either side of the summer monsoon season are neither too hot in the foothills nor too cold in the higher elevations and they offer the best conditions for trekking. Pre-monsoon is the best time to see the colourful blooms of the rhododendron at lower elevations. The post-monsoon months usually offer the clearest skies and the most settled weather. At either of these periods, you will encounter a wide range of daytime temperatures during your trip from approximately 25ºC in Kathmandu and a little higher in Pokhara to approximately 14ºC at 3000 metres, and approximately 7ºC at Annapurna Base Camp. The ‘real feel’ temperature in the middle of the day will be much warmer than this but at night in the rarefied air the temperatures plummet and you can expect to experience overnight temperatures below freezing anywhere above 3000 metres. In the Annapurna Base Camp, the nighttime temperatures may reach –10ºC or exceptionally, below this. Extended periods of rain or snow are very unlikely outside of the monsoon period but short-lived storms can and do occur.

The packed weight of your trek bag whilst trekking including your sleeping bag and mattress should be no more than 18.5 kg. This limit which is set by the porters is strictly enforced and bags will be weighed before setting off on trek. Anything not required on the trek can be left at the group hotel in Islamabad. Please note that your mountaineering equipment will be packed into additional, communal kitbags at the start of the trekking and this equipment will not be part of your personal 18.5 kg weight limit.
